During a conversation with Channel 2 News, Jerusalem District Police Commander Major General Yoram Halevy said that the terrorist who murdered the late police officer Yosef Kirma and Levana Malichi intended to carry out a larger terror attack in the Jerusalem city center. “He could have murdered many civilians,” Halevy said.

“Our alignment proved itself today as the terrorist was unable to get to the city center, where he had planned on going,” Halevy said. He also stated that there could have been many more fatalities as the terrorist was carrying an automatic weapon with a large amount of ammunition.
“The manner in which the officers handled [the terror attack] saved many lives,” he added. “Once again, the officers are exactly the barrier between the terrorist and the civilians. We are currently in the holiday season and we said that a terrorist who tries to attack, will be eliminated. That is what happened today. That is what happened during the past few terror attacks and that is what will happen to anyone who attempts to harm Jerusalem residents.”
