A 15-year-old boy opened fire at a southwestern Kentucky high school Tuesday morning, killing a boy and a girl, both aged 15. Police say 17 others were injured.

The incident at Marshall County High School in Benton, Kentucky was the first fatal school shooting of 2018 in the US. The injured students are reportedly all males between the ages of 15 and 18 and are expected to survive.

The suspect has been apprehended and will be charged with murder and attempted murder, Kentucky State Police Lt. Michael Webb told CBS. He added that the FBI is assisting in the investigation.

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin tweeted, “It is unbelievable that this would happen in a small, close-knit community like Marshall County. As there is still much unknown, I encourage people to love on each other at this time. Do not speculate, but come alongside each other in support and allow the facts to come out.”
