Along with world leaders and many other respected officials, billionaire businessman Ronald Lauder participated in the funeral of former President and Prime Minister of Israel Shimon Peres. Tonight on Channel 2’s Main Newscast (Tuesday), it was revealed that Lauder was escorted by police officers in order to give a statement regarding the Netanyahu family.
After arriving in Israel, the World Jewish Congress President was detained by investigators of Lahav 433, an Israel Police unit. Lauder told the investigators that detaining him is inappropriate. The two sides parted in a friendly manner and agreed that the investigators will fly to New York or that Lauder will land in Israel again in order to give a detailed statement. Lauder promised to answer all questions honestly and directly in order to assist the investigation.

Last month, Channel 2 News reported that the main allegation being investigated against Netanyahu is the attempt to accept bribes. The alleged offense is committed when a person asks for a bribe even if the other does not respond to the request.
It is important to note that according to initial suspicions, the Prime Minister’s attempt to obtain a bribe was done personally, not through his son or his wife. In addition, the statute of limitations is of no concern as the alleged crime happened recently.
