The Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett, and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked has announced that they will break off from the HaBayit Hayehudi (Jewish Home) parliamentary group and form the Tzalash party; which will be represented in the Knesset by the Hayemin Hehadash (The New Right) parliamentary group.
We want to build a “true partnership between secular and religious” said Bennet and Shaked.
The announcement reportedly prompted a backlash from right-wing parties and a warning from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud about a split in the right votes ahead of the snap election.
Tzalash was an inactive party established by former MK and minister Joseph Paritzky. Tzalash as the party name is a Hebrew abbreviation for Zionism, liberalism and equality. Attorney Amihai Weinberger took over the party’s ownership in August 2018, and now MK Bennett has power of attorney over it.
Today the move was approved by the House Committee.
