Hamas has carried out tests and has launched three rockets towards the sea, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman revealed on Monday. “The 2017 budget of Hamas’ Armed Wing was $260 million,” Lieberman said before a Yisrael Beiteinu conference. “This proves that despite the shortage of necessities, they continue to manufacture and test rockets.”
The defense minister also addressed the speech made by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday. “It’s clear that Abu-Mazen [Abbas] does not want peace,” Lieberman emphasized. “He does not want an arrangement and he is searching for an excuse to escape it. As far as he is concerned, Trump’s declaration was the excuse to escape direct negotiations.”
Lieberman continued and said that although Abbas speaks out against terrorism, he himself is the biggest sponsor of terror. “He transfers a billion shekels a year,” said the minister. Lieberman also clarified with regard to Gaza that Israel’s security system works according to a very clear strategy, which includes destroying terror tunnels, disabling Hamas’ capabilities and the rehabilitation of the Gaza Strip in exchange for demilitarization.
As reported by JOL earlier today, Lieberman said during an interview with Israel Television News Company that the IDF is working to destroy all of Hamas’s terror tunnels and that this task should be complete by the end of the year. “I imagine that we will have this done earlier but the task is that by the end of 2018, there will be not even one attack tunnel left.”
