Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman stated on Thursday that Israel would continue to respond with force to any shooting of missiles from Gaza, but added that Israel was not looking to launch a broad military campaign.

“I can say on behalf of the Israeli government that we are a calm and responsible leadership,” Lieberman said at a ceremony honoring distinguished IDF officers in Tel Aviv. “We are not looking for adventures and no one is pushing for an escalation of tensions with Hamas, but we are determined to protect the safety of Israeli citizens.”

“There will be no compromise on this issue – any shooting from Gaza into territories under Israeli sovereignty will be met with a forceful response,” Lieberman said. “Hamas has full control over the Gaza Strip, and when it really wants to achieve something, it knows how to do it. So regarding all these cases of disobedience, they should try harder.”
