The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Sunday held a gala event in Jerusalem in honor of the US delegation to the opening of the new US embassy in the city.
Among the special guests in attendance were US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, as well as the ambassadors of 33 countries.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked President Trump for his “bold decision” and urged the leaders of other countries to move their embassies to Jerusalem as well.
Mnuchin called Trump’s decision “a sign of the enduring friendship and partnership between our two countries.” He also addressed last week’s announcement that the US is pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal, saying, “Iran must not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. Not today, not in five years, not in 10 years, never.”
