As US President Donald Trump began his first week in office, the US State Department reported numerous resignations from their senior-level staff yesterday (Wednesday). As part of the expected transition of power within the State Department internationally, the recent resignations are a result of general lack of support of the new administration.

The resignations include senior-level members from various divisions within the State Department, some serving for many years under both Democratic and Republican administrations. “It’s the single biggest simultaneous departure of institutional memory that anyone can remember, and that’s incredibly difficult to replicate,” stated David Wade, former State Department chief of staff under John Kerry.
