Amid the reports about the possible repercussions of the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, Israeli Transportation and Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz has accused Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman of aiding Hamas.
“Defense Minister Lieberman is busy raising money for Hamas in Gaza ‘in order to prevent a humanitarian crisis,’” Katz wrote in a Facebook post on Monday. “The option of providing the aid at the expense of the State of Israel is even being considered! I think that this is absurd.”
Katz then proposed his plan to create an artificial island off the coast of Gaza, which has been rejected by both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lieberman, as an alternative to Lieberman’s actions.
The Israeli minister’s proposed island would house a port, a power plant and an airport. It would be connected to the Gaza Strip by a narrow road. According to Katz, the island plan would allow Israel to continue its security supervision of Gaza.
