The Committee on the Status of Women and Gender Equality held a special meeting on Tuesday to mark the Day for strengthening the relations with Diaspora Jewry.

Minister of Diaspora Affairs Omer Yankelevitch began the meeting by giving praise to the ‘Momentum’ project, a program where Jewish women from the diaspora take an 8-day tour throughout Israel in order to take in inspiring Jewish wisdom and join a global Jewish sisterhood.

“The women who take part in this journey, as well as other women, pass on the connection to Israel to their children. These women also become leaders in their communities,” Yankelevitch said.

Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog thanked noted that the director-general of the Jewish Agency is a woman as are most of its emissaries abroad. Herzog also gave praise to the ALMA, the Jewish Agency’s Pre-Military Academy for Female Leadership.

“Female leadership in the Jewish nation is prominent and impressive,” he said.
