Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced on that he would name a new Jewish settlement in the Golan Heights after US President Donald Trump. The PM said that this was to honor President’s Trump official memorandum in March recognizing Israel’s sovereignty in the Golan Heights.

“All Israelis were deeply moved when President Trump made his historic decision to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights,” Netanyahu said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

Mr. Netanyahu made the announcement during a trip with his family to the Golan Heights.

The Israeli prime minister said he would submit a resolution on the matter to the government after Passover, which ends on April 27th.

Trump officially admitted last month Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

Israel conquered much of the Golan during the Six Day War in 1967 and annexed it in 1981. Other than the United States, this annexation has never been recognized by the international community.
