Today (Thursday), the high school that Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul attended marked the birthday of the IDF soldier whose body is being held captive by Hamas after he was killed during Operation Protective Edge. Oron’s mother Zehava spoke during the ceremony to her son: “Know that there isn’t a day that passes that I’m not fighting to get you back in my arms. Know that the Israeli nation is hugging us and supporting us every day and won’t let us give up.”
“Your face, Oron, is always in my mind and the thoughts are difficult,” continued Zehava. “Are you warm? Are you cold? Are you eating? Are you drinking? Do you have comfortable sleeping conditions? All of this occupies me every day and all day. We are in a nightmare of uncertainty, panic, hope and disappointment.”
“Oron didn’t cross the border by accident,” Zehava said. “He was an outstanding Golani soldier who asked to be the first to enter Gaza in order to protect his country. It’s true, he’s not everyone’s son but the son of Zionist parents who were born in Israel, first generation [Israelis whose parents were] immigrants from Iraq who educated their child that there is no other place in the world for the Jewish people except Israel and we need to preserve the country’s existence for generations.”
“The responsibility of returning my son to me is on the government of Israel and IDF,” she continued. “They sent him to a war that lasted 51 days and they are responsible for bringing him home.”
