Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial kicked off Monday morning, during which the prime minister pleaded not guilty.
Netanyahu is under indictment for 3 cases.
In Case 1000, Netanyahu is accused of bribery and breach of confidence over claims of receiving various expensive gifts, purportedly exchanging for political favors.
Case 2000 indicates that Netanyahu reached an agreement with Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper editor to refrain from criticizing the prime minister in exchange for easier media coverage of the prime minister.
Case 4000 charges Prime Minister Netanyahu with bribery, theft, and breach of confidence for his action of granting Bezeq communication service a favorable offer during his tenure as communications minister between 2012-2017 in return for positive coverage of the prime minister.
It is estimated that the trial will take years. If convicted, Netanyahu could face up to 10 years in jail for bribery and up to three years for theft and breach of confidence.
