Benjamin and Sara Netanyahu testify in the libel suit they filed against Yedioth Acharonot journalist Igal Sarna following his latest Facebook post about a crisis in the couple’s relationship.
The Tel Aviv Magistrate Court is currently hearing the libel suit filed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife against Yedioth Achronot journalist Igal Sarna. In March 2016, Sarna posted a Facebook status that allegedly portrayed a ‘crisis’ in the couple’s relationship. Sara Netanyahu is expected to testify in today’s court hearing. Former Shin Bet chief Yoram Cohen, who was scheduled to testify on Sarna’s behalf, did not appear for the hearing.
Attorney Yossi Cohen, the lawyer representing the Netanyahu’s, asked Sarna at the beginning of the hearing to explain the former Shin Bet chief’s absence. Sarna said that Cohen had informed them that he was not able to attend to which Mr. Cohen quipped: “He didn’t show up because he was asked to say something that never was.”

The Netanyahu’s appeared in court today despite their previous attempts to postpone the hearing. Judge Azaria Alkalay refused the request to postpone, stating that “the Prime Minister must make time for the investigation among his other important proceedings.”
