In a cabinet meeting that ended this evening hours before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu takes off to meet with US President Donald Trump, officials who were involved in the meeting stressed that the conduct of the ministers was cordial and they deeply discussed the issues. However, the pressure from the right wing ministers did not die down.
Minister Ayelet Shaked and Minister Naftali Bennett have asked that Netanyahu withdraw his famous Bar Ilan speech. According to them, the American President made it clear that a Palestinian state won’t be established.
The Prime Minister refused to withdraw his support for the two state solution and stated that they should take Trump’s personality into account. According to a report from the meeting, Netanyahu’s adviser stated that Trump never made a commitment on the settlement issue and therefore there is no guarantee that there will not be limitations on settlement construction within the territories.
