The families of the late Oren Shaul and Hadar Goldin will meet this afternoon with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who is currently visiting Israel. They will discuss the Reconciliation Agreement with Turkey that was announced yesterday.
Yesterday, the families convened a press conference at their protest tent outside the Prime Minister’s residence. They called upon Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the cabinet ministers to condition the agreement on the return of the bodies of their children. Israel’s Deputy Minister for Regional Cooperation Ayoob Kara met with them and tried to convince them to support the Israeli-Turkish Reconciliation Agreement.
“The current government in Turkey is your only chance to help return your children home,” Kara stated. “It is impossible to include Hamas which is a terror organization as part of the agreement and I am satisfied that Turkey will try to influence Hamas after this important agreement.”
“I come to you as a bereaved brother who is the son of parents that lost two children in Israel,” Kara noted. “I understand your pain and I promise to do everything I can so that we can return your children home. Despite my support for the agreement with the Turks, I think there is no place for a humanitarian gesture to Gaza until they will return the captives including Avraham Mengistu.”
