After being appointed six months ago, IDF Head of the Northern Command Major General Aviv Kochavi will begin his assignment as the next Deputy Chief of General Staff. Kochavi will replace Major General Yair Golan who is retiring.

Last night (Thursday), Major General Aviv Kochavi was confirmed as the IDF Deputy Chief of the General Staff. He is expected to enter the position next week.
Kochavi will end his current position as the Head of the Northern Command. His former assignments include Commander of the Paratroopers Brigade, Commander of a reservist Paratroopers Division, Commander of the Gaza Division and Head of the Operations Division. During Operation Pillar of Defense and Operation Protective Edge, Kochavi was the Head of the Intelligence Directorate.
While his appointment as Deputy Chief of the General Staff was approved six months ago, he will only enter the position next week. Kochavi will replace Major General Yair Golan who is retiring from the IDF.
