Today (Thursday), COGAT, the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories, launched its new website. Its first article featured a story of the killing of a senior level member of Hamas, Mahmoud Ishtiwi. It is no coincidence that today was chosen by the IDF to launch the new website with this article as today marks the first anniversary of Ishtiwi’s death. Ishtiwi was killed by the head of Hamas’ armed wing because he was involved in homosexual activity. The event is still talked about in the neighborhoods of the Gaza Strip, especially ahead of upcoming elections.
COGAT’s website was established as a tool to promote a dialogue within the Palestinian population in the West Bank and Gaza. It was started by Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and COGAT General Yoav Mordechai.
Currently, the website posts regular updates on events in the area, information about the unit’s activities and articles on a multitude of subjects. For the first time, the website also includes relevant forms available to the public for download, which will help the Palestinians receive the necessary permission to hold community events. COGAT plans to utilize the site and provide as many services online as possible.
