Out of the some 27,000 people who immigrated to Israel over the past year, 11% of them chose to settle in Tel Aviv, making it the most popular Aliyah destination in 2016. In 2014 and 2015, Tel Aviv was also selected as the most popular destination among new Israeli citizens. According to the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Israeli Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption Ministry, most of the immigrants who settled in Israel’s Nonstop City over the past year were from Russia, France and the US.

Immigration to Tel Aviv has come to be characterized by youth, explains the Tel Aviv Municipality: “Approximately 9,500 of the new immigrants are between the ages of 18 and 35, joining a third of Tel Aviv’s population that is of the same age sector. Tel Aviv embodies many of the things these young professionals are looking for when they come to Israel.”

Aside from Tel Aviv’s many attractive features such as beautiful beaches and public parks, the city is home to 1,450 early-stage startups. According to the municipality, 2,400 of the new immigrants who moved to Tel Aviv recently are skilled in high-tech and engineering, making them a perfect match for the Tel Aviv startup scene.

“Absorption and Aliyah is an important asset for Tel Aviv-Yafo,” said Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai. “We feel honored and welcome the immigrants, who chose to make Tel Aviv their new home and contribute by making this city more interesting, diverse and cosmopolitan.”
