The Shin Bet revealed Wednesday that during a joint operation with the IDF, a man was arrested in suspicion for throwing a marble slab on an IDF soldier last month, which led to his death. The Duvdevan unit soldier, Staff Sergeant Ronen Lubarsky, was critically injured after the incident. He was taken to the intensive care at a local hospital and was pronounced dead from his wounds two days later.

During a Shin Bet intelligence investigation, it was discovered that 32-year-old Islam Yusef Abu Hameed, a resident of the Al-Am’ari refugee camp, was the one who threw the marble slab and he was arrested. According to the Shin Bet, Abu Hameed’s brothers are Hamas members and have carried out numerous terror attacks, murdering Israelis in the past. Additional details regarding the investigation are still placed under a gag order.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman commented on the suspect arrest and tweeted: “Nobody is resistant and no despicable terrorist will escape the hands of the defense establishment. I send, again, my condolences to the dear Lubarsky family. We will utilize the terrorist’s verdict to the fullest.”

As reported by JOL, On May 24, the elite IDF unit Duvdevan arrived at the Al-Am’ari refugee camp to arrest suspected terrorists. There, the soldiers were met by a crowd of Palestinians, including gunmen, who approached the moving vehicle, hurling stones and explosives at it. During the incidents, Staff Sergeant Lubarsky was hit in the head and with a marble slab was critically wounded.
