A group based out of Saudi Arabia, which in the past denied the Holocaust and called “The Diary of Anne Frank” a scam, made an unforeseen announcement declaring the Holocaust “among the worst human atrocities ever.” The Muslim World League also condemned all efforts to deny the Holocaust, which they claimed would be a distortion of history.

While the world marks International Holocaust Memorial Day on Saturday, the Saudi-based Muslim World League officially condemned Nazi war crimes and denounced Holocaust denial efforts, claiming that this would distort history. Muslim World League Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Al Issa wrote in a letter to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum that Islam considers Nazi war crimes to be “among the worst human atrocities ever.”
Al Issa served as the Saudi Justice Minister in the past and is now responsible for changing the direction of the country’s religious education towards a path of tolerance. “This human tragedy perpetrated by evil Nazism won’t be forgotten by history,” Al Issa’s letter reads.
“True Islam is against these crimes,” Al Issa wrote. “It classifies them in the highest degree of penal sanctions and among the worst human atrocities ever. One would ask, who in his right mind would accept, sympathize or even diminish the extent of this brutal crime?”
“The victims have sacrificed their innocent lives to pen a memorable reminder of freedom and determination, an example of the extent of Nazi hate which has sunk the world into wars and disasters,” Al Issa continued.
This marks a dramatic and unforeseen change in Saudi Arabia’s approach towards the Holocaust, as the country has traditionally denied the Holocaust and even called “The Diary of Anne Frank” a scam. While Holocaust denial is prevalent throughout the Middle East, Al Issa decided to take a different path.
