Ahed Tamimi, the young Palestinian woman who was filmed slapping an IDF soldier on Friday, will remain under arrest for six additional days.
Watch: Tamimi and her cousin attacking IDF soldiers
A military court on Wednesday extended by six days the arrest of Ahed Tamimi, 16, who was filmed last Friday slapping an IDF soldier in the West Bank Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh.
Explaining her actions, Tamimi said in the courtroom that, about an hour before the incident, she had seen the same soldiers fire a rubber bullet at her cousin, injuring him in his eye. “And then I saw the same soldiers, only this time they were right by my house,” she said. “So I couldn’t keep quiet about it.”
Bassem, Tamimi’s father, later told Israel News Company he is proud of his daughter, whom he says he raised to be a “freedom fighter.”
“It’s our duty to oppose the occupation,” he said. “We will continue our resistance until we drive the occupier out of our land.”
