On Monday, Israeli jets attacked “underground infrastructure” in Southern Gaza after a rocket was fired from Hamas and exploded Sunday evening in an open field in the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit issued a statement shortly after the Israel Air Force struck the targets: “Hamas is responsible for everything happening in the Gaza Strip, above and below ground.”
The attack on the underground infrastructure comes just a day after Israel attacked 18 Hamas targets in Gaza after a bomb exploded near the border, injuring four soldiers, and a rocket was fired at Israel, damaging a house. The IDF Spokesperson Unit tweeted regarding that attack, “IAF fighter jets targeted 6 military targets in Gaza belonging to Hamas, including: a terror tunnel in the Zaytun area & military compounds near Deir ElBalah & Khan Yunis.”
While Israel holds Hamas responsible for recent escalation along the border, the terrorist group has blamed Israel. Israel has seen an increase in terror since US President Donald Trump declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announced his intentions of moving the US embassy to Jerusalem.
