Hours after the IDF confirmed it had destroyed a Hamas terror tunnel that crossed into Israel, IDF Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the area on Sunday and said the army will continue to battle attempts to harm Israeli civilians.
“I’d like to express my appreciation to the Gaza Division, the Southern Brigade and all the other forces involved for the precise operation,” Zamir said. “We are determined to continue in our efforts to eradicate terror tunnels and to do whatever is necessary to protect the Israeli citizens.”
Earlier, the IDF confirmed that it had destroyed a terror tunnel stretching from Gaza to Egypt that crossed into Israeli territory directly under the Kerem Shalom border crossing. The 1.5-kilometer (about 0.93-mile) long tunnel, which passed under several strategic Israeli targets such as a gas pipeline, was completely destroyed in the strike.
