Hamas has called for a ‘day of rage’ in the West Bank ahead of US President Donald Trump’s expected announcement that the US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The IDF is preparing for a wave of riots in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem on Wednesday over US President Donald Trump’s intention to declare Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Earlier, Hamas announced that it would be holding a “day of rage” on Wednesday in response to Trump’s decision. Additionally, a senior Fatah official said Wednesday’s riots will resemble those that followed Israel’s decision to place metal detectors on Temple Mount in July.
Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh has stated that “all options are open” in order to “protect our land and our holy sites.”
In a letter to leaders of Muslim countries, Haniyeh wrote that “the American administration has proven that it is biased in Israel’s favor and is embracing the positions of the Israeli government.”
Also on Tuesday, the US State Department issued a travel warning urging government employees and their families not to visit Jerusalem’s Old City and the West Bank.
