As today’s violent protests along Gaza’s border begin to wane, the IDF issued a harsh response to Hamas’ call for an escalation of violence: “If the protests continue, targeted eliminations will return.”

Speaking through Egyptian emissaries, the IDF relayed to Hamas that “if the protests continue, the targeted assassinations will return.” Should the violence along Gaza’s border escalate, they said, “even Hamas’ leaders will not be safe.”

As reported earlier by JOL, Hamas held a press conference this evening (Monday) during which the terrorist group promised to issue an immediate and violent response to the deadly clashes between the IDF and Palestinian protesters. Hamas vowed that they “won’t wait long” before delivering a response.

According to Palestinian sources, at least 52 protesters have been killed- 10 Hamas members among them- and about 2,000 are reported injured. One of the eliminated terrorists was the son of deceased Hamas senior level member Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi, also known as the “Lion of Palestine”.

Despite the rising death toll and their failure to infiltrate the border fence, the terrorist organization has expressed pride in what they consider to have been a successful protest, primarily due to the large turnout of protesters as well as the vast international media exposure.

Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh left for Cairo on Sunday at the behest of the Egyptians, who have been pushing for rapprochement between its neighbors to the north. Egypt had previously warned Hamas against urging Gazans to breach the security barrier, and told the terrorist group’s leaders that doing so would ultimately put a target on their own backs.
