IDF Brig. Gen. Kamil Abu Rokon was promoted on Thursday to Major General (Aluf) following his appointment as the new Coordinator of Government Activity in the Territories.

Abu Rokon, a Druze, has been serving in the Israeli military for over 40 years and has held a variety of senior-level security positions. He holds a B.A. in Middle Eastern studies and an M.A. in International relations.

He is the second-ever Druze Major General in the history of the IDF and will be replacing Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, who has held the position for the past four years.

Abu Rokon was promoted in a ceremony in Tel Aviv attended by IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman. “I’m certain that Kamil is the right man in the right place,” said Eizenkot. “He will bring his vast experience into the job.”
