The United Nations should intervene to protect the Palestinians in Gaza from Israel, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas stated on Friday after at least 16 people were killed along the border. “The protesters were protecting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,” he added.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has blamed Israel for the clashes along the Israeli-Gazan border. At least 16 Palestinians were injured and over 1,000 injured in the clashes.
Abbas praised the Palestinians who gathered along the border yesterday and confronted the Israeli troops on the other side. “The defense of Jerusalem and the Islamic and Christian holy places is our national project,” he stated in a speech aired on Palestinian TV Friday. “The protesters were protecting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.”

Abbas then asked the United Nations to intervene to protect the Palestinians from Israel. “The large number of fatalities and casualties during the national demonstrations of peace affirms that the international community must intervene to provide our defenseless Palestinian nation with protection,” he claimed. “The regime of the Israeli occupation is fully responsible for the martyrs and those who were injured by the security forces.”
On Friday night, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit released footage of two terrorists who approached the border fence during the protests and fired at IDF forces. In response, Israeli tanks and fighter jets returned fire, eliminating the terrorists. In addition, the IDF attacked three Hamas targets with tank fire.
