Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was admitted to Ramallah’s Istishari Hospital on Sunday, his third visit to the medical center in a week. He is expected to be discharged tomorrow.
A senior hospital official told Reuters that the 82-year-old leader’s current condition is unrelated to the operation he underwent earlier this week. “The president will stay in [the] hospital until tomorrow,” the source, who asked to remain anonymous, said. “He is being given antibiotics to treat an inflammation in the chest.” According to a senior PA official, Abbas was hospitalized today because of a high fever.
On Tuesday, doctors at the hospital performed surgery on Abbas’s ear. A few days later, he was admitted to the hospital for a follow-up exam, his office said.
Abbas underwent several medical procedures in recent years, raising concerns about his health condition. In 2016, he underwent a cardiac catheterization. However, his doctors have repeatedly stressed that his state of health is good.
