Hamas’ Deputy Political Chief Saleh al-Arouri, who is currently in Iran, clarified this week that his organization will never recognize Israel or cut its ties with Tehran, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported Tuesday.
The news agency quoted al-Arouri as saying that his trip to Iran demonstrates Hamas’ “strong will” for maintaining its relations with Tehran. In addition, al-Arouri said that Hamas would never agree to disarm.
Al-Arouri’s remarks came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel would only accept the reconciliation between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas if the terrorist organization disarms and recognizes the State of Israel. In response to Netanyahu’s statements, Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar said that the organization will never disarm, according to the Palestinian news agency Ma’an.
