A Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist in Gaza died on Saturday evening in an “accidental blast,” according to the Hamas-affiliated Palestinian Information Center. The terrorist has been identified as 27-year-old Ibrahim Farahat, a member of the PIJ’s armed wing, known as the Saraya al-Quds.
The Gazan Health Ministry spokesperson said that another man was injured in the explosion and taken to the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza.
Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Maj.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai commented on the incident in a Facebook post, saying that the explosion happened in a house where the PIJ manufactures weapons and ammunition in Beit Lahiya’s Sheikh Zayed neighborhood. “It’s no surprise that a person who plays with fire eventually hurts himself,” he added.
In January, a Hamas terrorist died after he accidentally shot himself in the head. Imad al-Alami was reportedly inspecting his weapon when it discharged on January 9, leaving him in critical condition. He succumbed to his wounds three weeks later.
