The Syrian army has retaken Albu Kamal, a town near the Iraqi border in Syria, which was the last ISIS stronghold in the country.

The Syrian army and its allies have captured the town of Albu Kamal, ISIS’ last stronghold in the country, a commander in the military alliance supporting the Syrian regime said on Wednesday.

The commander told Reuters that Hezbollah was the main force in the battle for Albu Kamal, adding that Iraqi forces and Iranian-backed forces took part as well.

The al-Manar television station reported that the Syrian forces began to enter the town after surrounding it completely.
