Senior PLO official Saeb Erekat was interviewed by a Palestinian TV station regarding his poor health. “I trust God and hope that the surgery will go well but if God wants it to go differently, it would be an honor to meet him,” he said. “We lived and we will die as soldiers of Palestine.”

During an interview with a Palestinian TV station Thursday, PLO Secretary-General Saeb Erekat spoke about his deteriorating health. “Five years ago, my lungs were damaged and five months ago, my situation took a turn for the worse,” he said as he breathed with the help of a nasal cannula.
“It’s hard for me the walk and I’m waiting now for a lung transplant,” he added. “I’m a religious person and I trust God and hope that the surgery will go well but if God wants it to go differently, it would be an honor to meet him.”

“I’m celebrating now the privilege that God gave me of being part of the Palestinian people,” Erekat said with pride. “It’s a great honor to be a soldier of Palestine.”
Erekat explained that despite his sickness and serious condition, he has not stopped working. “I didn’t take time off, not because I wasn’t tired or because I wasn’t scared,” he said. “I want to tell everyone- I’m proud of every moment from these 62 years and be sure, Palestine’s independence will come. We are living and we will die as soldiers of Palestine.”
