Descendants of signatories of Israel’s declaration of independence gathered on Sunday to reenact the historic ceremony in which the establishment of Israel was declared.
The event was organized by The First Israeli Congress on Judaism and Democracy, a new project founded by Israeli academics to promote discussions on the complexities stemming from Israel’s dual identity as Jewish and democratic.
The participants included relatives of signatories such as Israel’s second Prime Minister Moshe Sharet, renowned journalist and Revisionist activist Herzl Rosenblum, Sephardic Israeli politician Behor Shalom Sheetrit and many others.
