Three fires broke out Saturday in southern Israel as a result of flaming kites that were launched from Gaza. It is suspected that Hamas terrorists flew the kites into Israel.

Firefighters together with KKL-JNF forces were called to Beeri Forest, Kfar Aza and Kissufim due to the blazes.

The IDF is using remote-controlled airplanes equipped with cutting knives to counter kites threat, a new method invented by experts from the Logistics Directorate. Soldiers fly the airplanes toward the kites to cut their strings, thus separating them from the flaming material Palestinians have attached to them. At least seven fire kites that were about to land in Israel on Friday were brought down by using this method.

On Friday, a fire broke out in Shaar Hanegev Regional Council when an explosive kite that was launched from Gaza landed in southern Israel. Firefighters arrived at the scene where the kite had landed and controlled the fire with the help of local residents.
