Hundreds of people gathered to attend the funeral of terror victim Itamar Ben-Gal who was fatally stabbed yesterday in the West Bank. Ben-Gal was a father of four, whose friends described him as a devoted family man. “The murderer of Itamar wanted to shut out the light here and in Itamar’s eyes but they won’t succeed,” said Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein at the funeral.

About 300 people gathered in Har Bracha on Tuesday morning to attend the funeral of 29-year-old Itamar Ben-Gal, who was fatally stabbed yesterday as he waited at a popular hitchhiking spot at the West Bank’s Ariel Junction. The friends of the father of four stated that he was a family man who was devoted to teaching and the construction of the Har Bracha settlement.

Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein spoke at the funeral. “The despicable terrorist who snuck up on Rabbi Itamar yesterday didn’t know him and didn’t know into whom he was inserting the knife, but anyone who knew Itamar knows what the terrorist saw- he saw the light,” Edelstein said. “He wanted to erase his smile. This is the desire of our enemies to cut us off from the land of Israel. The murderers of Rabbi Shevach hoped to destroy the community in Havat Gilad. The murderer of Itamar wanted to shut out the light here and in Itamar’s eyes but they won’t succeed.”

Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan also spoke at the service, criticizing the government. “We are demanding from the government answers,” he stated. “It’ can’t be that the deterrence has been lost. I’m calling on the prime minister to declare Har Bracha a city.” A friend of the slain rabbi said at the funeral, “No despicable and cowardly murder will weaken us.”

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman denounced the terror attack on Tuesday. “20 years ago I gave an ambulance to Har Bracha hoping it would be used to deliver healthy babies,” said Friedman in a post on his Twitter account. “Instead, a man from Har Bracha was just murdered by a terrorist, leaving behind a wife and four children.”

The terrorist, 19-year-old Abed al-Karim Adel Asi, is an Israeli citizen who reportedly divided his time between his mother’s home in Haifa and his father’s home in Nablus. After the terror attack, he fled the scene and is still at large.
