Mother of 19-year-old terrorist Abed al-Karim Adel Asi called on Tuesday for her son to give himself up to the police. The terrorist, who fatally stabbed 29-year-old Itamar Ben-Gal on Monday and is still at large, was well known to Israeli social services and has a history of drug abuse.
“I denounce the actions attributed to my son,” the terrorist’s mother said and begged: “Turn yourself in.”
The Haifa resident condemned Monday’s stabbing attack and told reporters that she had noticed that her son had “problematic and violent” tendencies. The mother said she had been in tears since she heard of the incident.
The woman told reporters that she had experienced a difficult marriage, which resulted in a divorce from the terrorist’s father several years ago. She is currently receiving assistance from several social aid organizations. “I want to continue the life I chose for myself,” said the mother. “Away from this. This is difficult for me.”
As previously reported by JerusalemOnline, personal details about the terrorist began to emerge a few hours after the terror attack. “This is a young man who is known to social services, homeless and addicted to drugs,” the Israeli Welfare Ministry said in a statement. “Throughout the years, attempts were made to help the young man who was abandoned by his parents and he received several housing solutions and rehabilitation from the State, but he chose to stop the process each time.”
