Following reports of pressure from settlement leaders, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to approve the construction of thousands of new housing units in the West Bank during the next several days. A total of 3,829 housing units are expected to be approved in areas where construction was on hold for 40 years.
Despite the decision, roads that bypass Palestinian villages and industrial areas will still have to wait for approval. According to a senior-level official, Netanyahu has raised 200 out of the necessary 800 million shekels for the completion of the roads and there are ongoing efforts to raise the necessary budget.

Sources close to Netanyahu claim that the plan wasn’t met with condemnation from US President Donald Trump’s administration. Chairman of the Shomron Regional Council Yossi Dagan told Netanyahu that if the plans aren’t brought for approval, he will reestablish the protest in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence in Jerusalem.
