The Israel Police has recommended that three Israeli Arab MKs from the Balad faction of the Joint Arab List party be indicted for fraud, money laundering, bribery, forgery, breach of trust and other offenses. The police findings were released on Tuesday and submitted to Israel’s State Prosecutor’s Office, which will make the final decision regarding whether to charge Jamal Zahalka, Haneen Zoabi and Juma Azbarga with the crimes.

The graft investigation began months ago in light of the State Comptroller’s reports about the political party’s 2013 election campaign contributions and 2015 election campaign spending. More than 20 suspects, including senior members and activists, were questioning during the investigation. Police even raided the homes and offices of the main suspects and confiscated documents.

Balad has denied the allegations, claiming that the reports about the police recommendations are part of “the political persecution against the Arab public’s leadership.” The political party also accused the Israel Police of “trying to turn an alleged administrative matter or financial irregularities during an election campaign into a criminal matter in order to balance the recommendations about Netanyahu.”
