Sara Netanyahu, wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was recorded raging at a senior advisor after her title as a psychologist was omitted in a short article about her involvement in a charity event. The tape was recorded in November 2009 and published by Walla! News on Sunday.

In the recording, Netanyahu can be heard shouting at the advisor. “I’m an educated woman! Psychologist! B.A, M.A, that’s it,” Netanyahu stressed, demanding that the article’s editor be reprimanded. She also expressed her anger that the article stated that public engagement is expected of the prime minister’s wife. “This prime minister’s wife is publicly engaged every day in her professional job!” Netanyahu is heard shouting at the advisor.

As reported by JOL on Thursday, the Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry Chief of State Protocol Meron Reuben was summoned for a meeting with the ministry’s director-general, Yuval Rotem, after he commented on the use of the title “First Lady” for Sara Netanyahu. Rotem instructed the senior Foreign Affairs Ministry official to “keep a low profile” and not participate in any official ceremonies until the review into the matter has been completed.

The Netanyahu family have come to the spotlight numerous times during the prime minister’s years in office. In August, Sara Netanyahu was informed that she will be indicted on charges relating to misuse of public funds. In one of the four cases involving Mrs. Netanyahu, she is suspected of ordering about $100,000 worth of meals from chefs and restaurants to the PM’s residence, while claiming she and her husband were not hiring a private cook. She was also accused of abusive behavior towards former housekeeper Meni Naftali. Prime Minister Netanyahu dismissed all the allegations against his wife.

The Netanyahu family responded to Sunday’s recording in a statement: “The secret recordings and the breach of all privacy rules for the sake of defaming the Netanyahu family, and only the Netanyahu family, has become tedious. Over the years, the prime minister’s wife, Sara Netanyahu, dedicated a large portion of her time to the treatment of children, their families and all the system surrounding them as an expert psychologist. The media prefers to conceal this, along with the various public actions of Mrs. Netanyahu for the benefit of holocaust survivors, lone soldiers, children with cancer and grieving families.”

“This is a one-sided and mean publication of a secret recording from nine years ago,” the statement read. “The recording contains no public interest and no value; it is only yellow gossip solely intended to continue the mean-spirited defamation spree against the Netanyahu family.”
