Several teens have been arrested in the past couple of days for wearing clown masks and scaring children, a new phenomenon inspired by the success of the horror film It.
After police vowed to put an end to the “scary clown prank” phenomenon, several Israeli teenagers have been arrested for carrying knives and clubs while wearing a clown mask.
A new video shows the arrest of a 15-year-old “clown” in the northern-Israeli city of Kiryat Motzkin. The city’s surveillance cameras caught him walking with a club near a soccer field.
A 28-year-old man from Petah Tikvah was arrested as well, after locals reported him to the police.
Police called on parents to make sure their children do not take part in these “wrong and illegal” acts, which were inspired by the success of the horror film It.
Apart from posing a danger to others, police said, the teens who do this also put themselves in danger. “Someone might interpret the prank as an actual threat and harm them,” police said.
