Today (Saturday), Israeli Ukranian long jumper Hanna Minenko advances to the final round in the women’s triple jump event at the 2017 IAAF World Championships, after being initially ranked eighth during the qualifiers. Minenko’s first jump was disqualified, but she managed to jump 14.17 meters on her second attempt – enough to qualify for the finals this coming Monday.
Although Minenko is currently recovering from an injury, she was still able to match her year’s results. On Monday, she will compete against 11 other jumpers, including Kazakhstani jumper Olga Rypakova who is ranked first worldwide and won a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London and bronze at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Minenko herself has been ranked second in the world since 2015, and is interested in bringing a fourth medal back home to Israel. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Minenko placed fifth, one spot below her rank at the 2012 Olympics during which she still represented Ukraine.
