Yesterday (Friday), Lebanese security forces arrested actor and playwright Ziad Itani on suspicion of “collaborating with the Israeli enemy.”

The actor admitted to monitoring groups of senior-level political officials and establishing ties with their associates in order to obtain detailed information about their lives. In addition, Itani provided Israel with information on two prominent political figures in Lebanon, whose identities were not revealed.
Itani is the second Lebanese director to be arrested within two months on suspicion of maintaining contact with Israel. In September, director Ziad Doueiri was detained in Beirut after returning from the Venice Film Festival. According to Doueiri, he was detained because part of his previous movie, The Attack, was filmed in Israel and included Israeli actors.
