Michael Flynn, Donald Trump’s former National Security Advisor, has asked for immunity in exchange for testifying in the ongoing probe into Russian meddling in the US election, his lawyer said on Thursday.
“Gen. Flynn certainly has a story to tell, and he very much wants to tell it, should the circumstances permit,” said Robert Kelner, Flynn’s lawyer. “However, no reasonable person, who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch-hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution.”
Flynn was forced to resign after it was discovered that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence regarding his communications with a Russian official.
According to The Wall Street Journal, nobody has agreed yet to Flynn’s immunity request.
Three of Trump’s former aides have already agreed to testify without asking for immunity.
