US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said on Tuesday that Washington is pushing for a series of emergency meetings with UN agencies, such as the Security Council and Human Rights Council, regarding Iran. At least 21 people have been killed so far in the anti-government riots across the country.

On the sixth straight day of the demonstrations in Iran, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley praised the protesters, echoing the support they have already received from President Donald Trump. Haley added that Washington is pushing for a series of emergency meetings with UN agencies, such as the Security Council and Human Rights Council, regarding Iran.
Haley slammed the Iranian leaders’ attempts to blame the protests on external forces. “We all know that’s complete nonsense,” she said. “The demonstrations are completely spontaneous. They are virtually in every city in Iran. This is the precise picture of a long-oppressed people’s rising up against their dictators.”
“The international community has a role to play on this,” she continued. “The freedoms that are enshrined in the United Nations charter are under attack in Iran.” So far, at least 21 people have been killed in the protests.
“We must not be silent. The people are crying out for freedom. All freedom loving people must stand with their cause,” she added. “The international community made the mistake of failing to do that in 2009. We must not make that mistake again.”
