Stephen Paddock’s relatives were stunned when they found out that he was the Las Vegas shooter who murdered 58 people and injured over 500. “The fact that he had those kinds of weapons is just — where the hell did he get automatic weapons?” his brother said during an interview with CBS.

The family members of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock said that they were shocked by the news of the mass shooting outside the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Eric Paddock, the shooter’s brother, told Reuters that the family has “no idea” why his brother committed such a murderous act. “We’re horrified,” he said. “We’re bewildered and our condolences go out to the victims.”
The 64-year-old shooter lived about 90 minutes north of Las Vegas. “The fact that he had those kinds of weapons is just — where the hell did he get automatic weapons?” Eric added in an interview with CBS. “He has no military background or anything like that…he’s a guy that lived in a house in Mesquite, drove down and gambled in Las Vegas.”

In a statement following the shooting, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said: “Paddock opened fire on a crowd of more than 22,000 concert-goers from his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel on Sunday evening at approximately 10:08 p.m. The victims were across the street attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival concert when bullets rang out. LVMPD SWAT responded to the call, breached the hotel room and found the suspect dead.”
