US President Donald Trump called for capital punishment for Manhattan terrorist Sayfullo Saipov. The terrorist drove a truck on a bike lane hitting pedestrians and cyclists on Tuesday, murdering eight people and injuring 12.
Saipov, 29, who was shot by a police officer and hospitalized, was summoned to federal court on Wednesday; he reportedly arrived in a wheelchair and did not request a plea bargain. The terrorist told investigators he wished to inflict “maximum damage against civilians” and that he was inspired to carry out the attack from watching ISIS propaganda videos on his mobile phone.

“NYC terrorist was happy as he asked to hang ISIS flag in his hospital room. He killed 8 people, badly injured 12. SHOULD GET DEATH PENALTY!” Trump tweeted on Wednesday night. Saipov has reportedly told investigators he “feels accomplished” for carrying out the terror attack and intended to continue his rampage had he not been shot by the police officer.
As previously reported by JOL, the terrorist is married and a father of three children. He was legally residing in New Jersey and obtained a Green Card with the Diversity Visa Lottery Program.
The FBI told Reuters it has located the second person-of-interest connected to the attack, Uzbek national Mukhammadzoir Kadirov, 32, but did not provide further details concerning the suspect.
