At least 7 people were murdered and 90 wounded in a series of terror attacks in Burkina Faso on Friday, according to various reports. The coordinated attacks were carried out on the national army’s HQ and the French Embassy in the capital Ouagadougou.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack; however, previous terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso were conducted by al-Qaeda affiliates in response to the country’s involvement in Western Africa’s fight against militant Islamists.
According to Reuters, government spokesperson Remi Dandjinou said on state television that gunmen murdered at least five local soldiers at the military HQ. Two other local guards were murdered while defending the French embassy. There were no reports of French casualties.
Government officials said four gunmen were neutralized at the French embassy and three at the army headquarters. Local police reportedly surrounded another gunman who attempted to escape.
