Iran’s President says his country does not seek new conflicts in the region. This statement comes a day after Israel attacked multiple Iranian military targets in Syria in response to a failed attempt to fire missiles into Israeli territory.
President Hassan Rouhani told German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a phone conversation that his country has “always aspired to lower the tension in the region and strengthen security and stability.”
According to reports, Rouhani did not mention the Israeli strikes in his conversation with Merkel, nor in an earlier conversation he had had with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Prior to her conversation with Rouhani, Merkel condemned Iran’s attack on Israeli military outposts in the Golan Heights and called for large-scale talks regarding Iran’s ballistic missile system.
