Iranian President Hassan Rouhani slammed Washington on Sunday morning, two days after US President Donald Trump announced his decision to extend the nuclear agreement for the final time. “The US has failed in its attempt to undermine the nuclear agreement between Iran and the world powers,” Rouhani said.

“This is a long-term victory for Iran,” Rouhani said in a speech that was broadcasted on state television. “Trump, despite his repeated attempts, has failed to undermine the deal signed by seven countries.”

Yesterday, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi said in an interview with the Iranian Students News Agency that Tehran will continue to act in accordance with its national interests. “Ballistic capability is the only deterrent against enemy threats in the situation that the Islamic Republic of Iran has agreed to have no nuclear weapons and to use no weapons of mass destruction,” Boroujerdi said.

Boroujerdi also mocked Trump, saying that he was “forced once again to extend Iran’s nuclear sanctions waiver despite all the boasts.” In addition, the senior Iranian official commented on Trump’s decision to slap 14 individuals and entities with sanctions. Boroujerdi said that the unreasonable move is obviously an American violation of the nuclear deal.
